Reflections of recent outings

I like my brothers.  It's always fun to do stuff like this with 'em.  On a related note, I also love P-38's.  It always cool to hang around with 'em...

I am Locutus of gentetic payload #2

Well, the visit from the family was awesome.  Had a load of fun, they also brought a bunch of junk I left down there, and to top it off, I convinced them to name the new dog "Breda" (double entendre!).  Now I just gotta figure out what the heck I'm gonna do with all the 25-06 and .300 win mag I got laying around here.

Having the family collective visit for the weekend, so blogging may be light for a while...here's some music to keep you company.

barely failing

So, some months ago there was some buzz about the South Koreans developing an automated gun turret that will assess and engage targets all on its own, that they made to patrol the 38th parallel.  The news this week, is that they are actually going to make them operational, installing them along the DMZ.

As cool as the thought of completely autonomous turrets are, I think it's a pretty stupid idea to actually use them there.  Here's why:  These turrets only have a limited ability to identify threats without human involvement, so what if these things end up blowing away a North Korean that is attempting to defect?  Not only that, but what good are these things gonna be if crap actually hits the fan?  The Norks have enough artillery massed within range of that border, that it'll make Hiroshima look like a bad fart, so why bother?  last but not least, their relationship with each other ain't even crappy at best, so why try to provoke each other by slapping thousands of erector-set guns across the border?

So, South Korea, not to say that the leadership of the Norks isn't worth smearing across the pavement, but for heaven's sake at least try to make it look like you thought this crap through.

My train of thought

Just derailed into an embankment.  I swear I had something good to post, but I totally just forgot it.  So, in leiu of actual content from me, here's a new product that was recently announced that will revolutionize the way we think of Saiga picatinny rail systems.

The Titan quad rail from Chaos US.  Click on the pic to check it out.

More ramblings

Was having a conversation with a coworker about guns, and he misinterpreted me in thinking I didn't like shotguns.  I said to him, "no, I really like shotguns, they are very versatile firearms, but on the best of days you are only going to be effective out to about 150 yards or so (with slugs), I believe in having a 3 gun approach to everything."

He asked what I mean, and I reply, "well a pistol is only good for having something you can fight with until you can get to a real gun, and as much as I like my shotgun, you never know when someone is going to piss you off from 1000 yards away. So for that, I prefer a long ranged hole-puncher."

Just sayin', ticket punching isn't always a short range business.

A first time for some things

Well, I have voiced what I thought of American TV on here before.  I especially hate the very notion of 'reality TV'.  If I wanted to watch a bunch of people gossip, having tantrums, being slutty, and backstabbing, I'd go to my high school reunion.

So imagine my surprise when I check out Sons of Guns, and come to find that I really like it!  Unlike most other reality shows, this one has an emphasis on the quirkiness of the people and the jobs at hand rather than pointless drama.  That, and the stuff they do is better than straight up gun porn.  Integrally suppressed AKs, restoring old flamethrowers, making master keys out of Saigas, and building a class 3 M2HB out of a semi-auto kit.  But even if you aint that into guns, it can be pretty interesting just for it's educational value.  So, yeah, go give it a look-see.

The best quote ever

Was hanging with a friend last night, and he brought up the topic of a girl we know.  I was beginning to wonder why, when he said, "yeah, I'd pin four pips onto her collar."
Despite the fact that this is the nerdiest thing I have heard in years, I laughed so hard I'm surprised I didn't puke.  Just in case you don't get it, here's what he's talking about:

Which is the rank insignia for an admiral in Star Trek.  More specifically, I'm sure he's making a connection regarding the fact that he totally admires Admiral Alynna Nechayev:
Yeah, I know some funny people.

Unscheduled Medication

I have some really cool friends.  I just got a call inviting me to go shooting again!  Time to go hurl small chunks of lead at supersonic velocities through some paper.

The things you know

Was having a conversation with my mom the other day, and apparently she had no idea who Micheal Moore is.  On the other hand, it's sad to even know that that waste of space even exists, so I guess that is probably a good thing.  But, for educational purposes, here you go anyways:
